Welcome to Capuchin Youth & Family Ministries! CYFM is a ministry of the Capuchin Province of St. Mary. We began impacting the lives of young people in the mid 1970’s. Since then, we have grown into a dynamic and multifaceted Youth and Family Ministry Center.
Each year CYFM touches the lives of thousands of young people and their families who in turn touch the lives of their family members and friends. The ripple effect is incredible.Their faith is nurtured here and they act on this faith in the world through service to God’s people. The Church, which Jesus mandated St. Francis to rebuild, is being rebuilt, one young person at a time.
Capuchin Youth & Families Ministries Center sits on 30 acres along the banks of the majestic Hudson River and encompasses two buildings, St. Francis Retreat House and St. Clare Hall. The St. Francis Retreat House accommodates 72 overnight guests and features a chapel, meeting rooms and dining facilities. St. Clare’s Hall, constructed in 2003, provides additional meeting space, administrative offices and a large gymnasium, which serves as a venue for retreat closing Masses, indoor recreation, games, dances and other events. The spacious grounds feature walking trails, open fields, and picnic tables, providing a peaceful place for outdoor reflection and prayer, as well as space for organized games, relaxation and special events.
CYFM is a Gospel community of people who have been touched by the retreats and programs that we offer. Many parishes look to CYFM to support the youth and family ministry within their parish. We provide programs and services that compliment parish ministry.

Individuals and small groups from parishes come to CYFM for these programs. They find a lively community in the Franciscan Spirituality. CYFM is uniquely Capuchin Franciscan. It draws men and women, young and old, rich and poor, professionals and volunteers, who share a deep desire to experience the Kingdom of God now. They are joined by their common quest for spiritual peace within a community dedicated to carrying out the vision of St. Francis. In the ministry this community offers and experiences, it finds that, the Church is being rebuilt as St. Francis’s followers found the Kingdom of God being built within their group as they rebuilt the Church of San Damiano.
The CYFM staff also provides for Parishes and Schools:
- Confirmation and Pre-confirmation Retreats
- High School Class Retreats
- Family Days of Reflection
What sets CYFM apart?
Parishes and Schools find the Retreats at CYFM to be exceptionally well crafted. While experiential and fun, they also provide solid teaching in the faith and opportunities for young people to be evangelized and to see the relevance of their faith for their lives.
CYFM has a very high staff to retreatant ratio and thus are able to do much of the retreat in very effective small group settings.
CYFM’s staff includes two Capuchins and experienced Lay Youth Ministers.
CYFM’s Cap Corps Volunteers are a unique part of the value of a CYFM retreat. They are faith filled and committed young adults on the retreat team, giving witness talks and facilitating small group discussions. Their youth, faith, and dedication touch retreatants in a very special way.
CYFM, with its Friars, lay staff, and young adult Cap Corps Volunteer, is able to combine solid Catholic teaching, illustrative and inspiring witness to the lived experience of faith, and pedagogically sound methods through which retreatants grow in their faith and enjoy their retreat.
