Conversations - Timothy Olmstead
07/22/2010
We begin Season Two of Conversations with an interview with
Mr. Timothy Olmstead, Development Associate
Capuchin Office of Mission and Development
New York City
Where are you originally from?
I’m from Syracuse, New York.
Is that where you went to college?
I started at the University of Buffalo and then transferred to Le Moyne College in Syracuse. I majored in Theology and Spanish.
What was your first job when you finish college?
I did a year of volunteer work for the Jesuits at the Fordham Campus. They have an infirmary similar to what the Capuchins have at St. Clare. I lived there for a little over a year. I drove guys to their doctor’s appointments and to visit their families. I took them for walks on campus and sat and spent time with them.
My next job was at Fairfield Prep where I taught theology to sophomores and juniors. I was really close in age to the students so it made it easy to relate to them. They were good and I enjoyed teaching. I do miss the kids a lot. I keep in touch with some of them.
After my second year at Fairfield Prep, I decided that teaching wasn’t for me. I woke up one day and bought a plane ticket to Paris.
