Cardinal-Designate Dolan
Holds Mass At St. Patrick’s

York Archbishop Timothy Dolan
delivered his first Mass as a cardinal-designate to a packed St. Patrick's Cathedral
in Midtown on Sunday, January 8, 2012.
Those in attendance
said Dolan's elevation is a great moment for all Catholics in New York.
Dolan delivered his
homily celebrating the Christian holiday of Epiphany while battling laryngitis,
and said he was happy for all Catholics and their supporters in the
archdiocese.
"That makes me
happy when my people are happy," said Dolan.
"It's a great
example for New York Catholics, of how we are called to live the Gospel, of how
we are called to go out and be witnesses to that," said parishioner
William Tarraza. "And even today in his homily, he preached just so
generously from his heart and I think that's what New York needs."
Dolan is one of 22
who have been elevated to cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI. The official ceremony,
known as a consistory, takes place at Vatican City on February 18.
