Parish Mission – A Revelation
“Our Parish Mission this year was unusually moving, due in no small measure to the extraordinary preacher, Capuchin Friar Michael Marigliano. In an age of speed and shortcuts, Father challenged hundreds of parishioners--including seniors, middle aged, youth and even us priests--to slow down and re-think being faithful to our Savior. In a careful and deliberate manner, he helped us “see, smell and feel” the milieu in which Jesus lived and preached. Imaginatively, we were “present” as Jesus challenged the leaders of his own people to widen their sense of honor and shame, and so deal with others as God does--with understanding and true love. We were encouraged to build up, rather than attack, neighbors, some of whom may be unlikeable, even enemies. Speaking easily and yet deeply, Fr. Michael re-introduced us to a bare-bones faith and the authentic Person who summons us--one by one. Several parishioners said this “revelation” helped them enter into Holy Week as they never had before. In a few short days, our pastoral team sensed a genuine movement toward a more mature faith. Parish Mini-Retreat – Challenging and Contemporary
“Over the past six years, our Parish has hosted the pilgrim statue and relics of Padre Pio from the Capuchin Friars. It has become an annual parish celebration of faith and Prayer. I use this weekend as a mini-retreat for myself and my parishioners. The friars they have sent to us have been wonderful! They are cooperative with the parish program, flexible, and above all willing to work. They ask for nothing in return, except hospitality from the rectory. Fr. Michael Marigliano, in particular, is a phenomenal preacher; his style is gripping and his message challenging and contemporary. As pastor, I watch the faces of my parishioners as he preaches; all eyes are fixed on him. I am personally moved by the words he speaks. I cannot speak highly enough of the fruits of this weekend of prayer, both for myself and our parish
