The Province has been striving to protect the immigrant communities it serves in this era of newly intensified enforcement actions; and to inform all peoples, whatever their legal status, of their rights. On Sunday, Jan. 18, Our Lady of Sorrows Parish welcomed Rep. Daniel Goldman, who represents New York’s 10th congressional district. He answered questions from parishioners about the current realities facing immigrant communities, and his office pledged to offer whatever legal support it can when loved ones are arrested, detained, and deported. Prior to this visit, our friars Br. James Donegan, Br. Thomas McNamara, and Br. Anthony Zuba met with Goldman’s staff in both Manhattan and in Washington, D.C., last autumn to seek his support of immigration reform that would provide a path to citizenship for many categories of persons, including DACA recipients and TPS holders. We are thankful to Goldman and his staff for being receptive to our concerns and requests.
