While the planet’s greatest soccerplayers converged in North America for the World Cup, the nation’s most generous athletes converged in Denver to celebrate the gift of life through organ and tissue donation. Br. Patrick Sullivan, a kidney donor, took part once again in the Transplant Games of America on June 18-23. He represented Team Liberty of the metropolitan Tri-State area. Competing in the 80-plus category, Brother Pat won gold medals in the 5K run and the 100- meter dash. He also concelebrated Sunday Mass in a nearby parish with a number of games participants in attendance. During the games, representatives from Guinness World Records managed to corral and certify a large number of the transplant recipients and living donors (kidney, liver lobe, lung lobe, or intestinal section). Guinness tallied an official world record of 966 transplant recipients and living donors in one place! The next games will be in Minnesota in 2028. Brother Pat is already training for the games! |
