To celebrate the jubilee year of St. Francis, Sacred Heart High School hosted a logo contest, inviting students to create designs that captured the spirit of St. Francis through themes of peace, simplicity, care for creation, joy, and service, while also reflecting Sacred Heart pride.

We are excited to reveal the winning logo, created by senior Olivia Martinez. Olivia explained the inspiration behind her beautiful design:

“My design reflects St. Francis’ teachings through symbols of peace and faith. St. Francis is depicted admiring a dove, representing peace and care for creation.

“Behind him is the Tau Cross, symbolizing devotion to God. Its placement in the background emphasizes how God is and must remain the center of our lives.

“Finally, I encircled the design with a green ring to represent Sacred Heart. This signifies how our school community embraces St. Francis’s teachings of service, humility, love for God, and care for creation.”

We are also proud to present the runner-up, created by Justin, a junior. What was the inspiration behind his exceptional design?

“I approached the prompt with a practical and minimalistic mindset, preserving the recognizable elements of the school’s crest while introducing meaningful Franciscan symbolism. I replaced the Eighth Son Heraldry Cross with the iconic Tau Cross, a central symbol of St. Francis.

“The beads along the dividing lines of the crest represent the knotted cord of a Franciscan friar’s cincture, symbolizing the three vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. The inclusion of Roman numerals translates to ‘2026,’ marking both the current year and the jubilee year of Saint Francis of Assisi.

“At the top of the crest, a dove replaces the traditional oil flame, representing peace and purity. Overall, I designed the logo to achieve a clean, professional, and official look while honoring the Franciscan tradition.”

We are also proud to showcase the outstanding work of our finalists. Erich and Valerie, both juniors, share the inspiration behind their designs.

Erich: “My logo (right) reflects the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi and the Franciscan values that guide our school. I placed the school’s clover at the center to represent our identity and unity. On the right, St. Francis reaches out to symbolize kindness, humility, and service. On the left, a dove represents peace, one of his most important messages. The flowers and leaves surrounding the design highlight care for creation and respect for the world around us.”

Valerie: “My design (left) highlights the five pillars of St. Francis—prayer, friendship, care for creation, service, and compassion—as the foundation of Sacred Heart High School. These values are deeply rooted in our community through service opportunities, school liturgies, and the friendships we build each day. The pillars are brightly colored to emphasize their importance in our daily lives. Below them, Br. Robert Abbatiello and St. Francis are shown supporting these pillars, symbolizing their role in guiding and strengthening our community. Fr. Bob does this through his constant support, patience, and humor, while St. Francis intercedes for us in prayer as we strive to follow in his footsteps. The shamrocks represent our strong Irish spirit, something we proudly carry with us.”
