The Capuchin Friars of the Province of St. Mary mourn the death of their brother, Fr. Theodosius (Ted) Corley, who died on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026, at the age of 79.

Father Ted, baptized Richard, was born to John Corley and Pauline Valentovic-Corley on March 5, 1947, in the Bronx, N.Y. He attended Our Lady Queen of Angels Grade School in Harlem and then Glenclyffe, the Capuchin high school seminary, in Garrison, N.Y. Richard entered the Capuchin Order on Aug. 31, 1965, in Milton, Mass., and received the religious name Theodosius. He professed simple vows on Sept. 1, 1966, at St. Anthony Friary in Hudson, N.H., and graduated in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. Father Ted attended St. Joseph Seminary, Yonkers, N.Y., and Maryknoll School of Theology, Ossining, N.Y., and received a master of divinity degree in 1974. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 11, 1974.

Father Ted served in a variety of ministries. He was an associate pastor at St. Pius X Parish, Middletown, Conn., for several years. He enjoyed teaching at Sacred Heart High School, Yonkers, for five years. He worked briefly as a vocation recruiter. For many years, Father Ted ministered as a hospital chaplain, including at Grasslands Hospital, Valhalla, N.Y.; Norwalk Hospital, Stamford, Conn.; and St. Joseph Hospital, Yonkers.

In his latter years, Father Ted served for a decade with the parochial communities of St. Joseph, Portland, Me., as a parochial vicar and later as guardian and pastor. He returned to Sacred Heart as a parochial vicar for a few years. He then served at St. Peter Parish, Rutland, Vt., as pastor and guardian.

Needing to address his health issues, Father Ted was transferred to St. Clare Friary, our senior friar residence in Yonkers, in 2018. He remained there until his death.
