The Capuchin Franciscan friars of the Province of St. Mary mourn the death of their brother, Fr. Michael Marigliano, OFM Cap., who passed from this life on October 7, 2026, in New York City at the age of seventy.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 15, 1955, to Joseph Marigliano and Mary B. Thomassen-Marigliano. He entered the novitiate on Aug. 31, 1978, and professed his perpetual vows on Sept. 18, 1982. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 2, 1984.

From 1985 to 1989 he was stationed in Garrison, N.Y., where he served in the vocation and formation ministries. He was director of novices in the interprovincial novitiate program at St. Felix Friary, Mt. Calvary, Wis., from 1989 to 2000. For five years, 2000-05, he was director of communications and lived at the College of New Rochelle in Westchester County.

In 2005 he moved to New York City, where he would live for the next 18 years, first at Our Lady of Sorrows Friary and then at Holy Cross Residence. He served in the preaching apostolate for six years (2005-2011), the last three as co-coordinator of the preaching ministry. He was elected vicar provincial minister in 2011 and served two terms. During that time he was also the prefect of formation. After his service on the provincial council, he was parochial vicar at Holy Cross-St. John the Baptist Parish for six years. In 2023 he moved to St. Joseph Friary, New Paltz, N.Y., where he was a priest in residence until he suffered a fatal cardiac arrest.

He is survived by his mother, Mary, and by his siblings and their families: Joann, husband Brian (deceased); Tom, wife Helen; John, wife Grace (deceased); Theresa, husband Michael (deceased); Patricia Barbara, husband Anthony; Nancy, husband William; and Carol, husband Michael.

A wake will be held on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Avenue, Yonkers, N.Y. The funeral will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, N.Y.
