Parish Ministry
"For it is in giving that we receive"
The parish is the center of most Catholics’ spiritual life. It is there that they receive the sacraments and foster a Catholic community with other parishioners. Just as important as it is to church members, parishes are vital to the Church. They are the heart of the church and it is through these communities of faith that the gospel is proclaimed and celebrated every day in many and diverse ways.
The Capuchin Franciscans of the Province of St. Mary have ministered in parishes in New York State and New England for more than 150 years and continue to serve the People of God in many active and dynamic parish communities.
Capuchin Franciscans ensure that parish communities are kept vibrant by inviting the parishioners to take part in community outreach; participate in prayer groups and adult faith formation, and take on leadership roles within all aspects of parish life. Although each parish the friars serve may be unique, one thing they all have in common is the spiritual guidance given to them by the friars, as well as the spirit of fraternity and respect for all people that is so much part of the Franciscan ideal.
